Add to that the fact that we were sitting outside on the beautiful front porch with perfect weather. This was the first time my husband had ever stayed in a bed and breakfast. He is now looking forward to staying at others but the Spahn House has set the bar very high! This is a great place to stay for families, for couples, for just about anything! A Hidden Architectural Gem in a Region of Deep History
Built in 1904 by craftsmen and trades using local materials, Spahn House stands today as a testament to the skills of those men. Pocket doors, crown molding, oak floors, hand-hewed grand center staircase - these are just a few of the unique features; and we have the architects plans for the renovation in 1947! Our region is an historic crossroads beginning in Pre-Columbian times when the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations lived and prospered here - alongside Senatatoba Creek (now the Hickahayla) and precursor of our town's name which means "White Sycamore" in Chickasaw and is uniquely the only town in the world so named. Hernando de Soto followed the Hickahayla Creek north to the Coldwater River and into what is now "DeSoto County" on his journey to discover The Mississippi. Our town was burned and destroyed TWICE in the Civil War as we are a regional depot aside the primary railway between Memphis and Vicksburg. Indian Burial Mounds, Civil War sites and historic artifacts abound in what is now an agricultural center for the dairy, soy, rice, cotton and livestock industries. Does Spahn House have private baths in its suites?
Yes. Among less than 10% of all B&B's the US, all of our fully-appointed suites have private baths - three of them have Jacuzzi tubs.
What amenities are available to guests?
Along with 12' ceilings and period decor, every modern amenity is available: 2.4/5.0 gig wireless throughout, Xfinity HD enhanced cable service, HVAC air and heat, function rooms, party and game room,
What is your breakfast service and are you able to accommodate dietary restrictions?
Our multi-course country breakfasts are legendary but we are happy to tailor our menu to fit the needs of any and every guest. Some of our breakfast specialties include apple-cinnamon or blueberry pancakes, glazed lemon buttermilk bread, strawberries and cream souffle - to name a few. Our luncheon and dinner menu is just as "gourmet" and equally memorable.
What are your function facilities?
We are adaptable and host events on-site or at a customer's preferred location, as we are experienced caterers. We present private celebrations for two or have handled as many as 1500 for a catered buffet. Our mansion can host 50-60 for a sit-down formal dinner or 150-200 for a garden-style wedding or event. Our 5 suites are always available as apart of a function package - wedding, anniversary or reunion. Just be sure to contact us at least 4-6 months in advance as our spring and fall seasons book well in advance.
